Your co-hosts, The Hamilton Club and Franklin & Marshall College, along with the City of Lancaster and Honorary Host Amanda Sobhy are excited about hosting our initial PSA event, and cordially welcome you. We hope you have an enjoyable experience here in the Country's oldest inland city.
Here are a few fun facts:
The Hamilton Club, a Five Star Platinum Club that dates to 1889, is co-host and will be your headquarters from the opening reception to the closing awards ceremony. We have provided a “Players Lounge” where you can relax anytime and have dinner available for purchase throughout the tournament week. Squash has a long history at the Club with their courts opening in 1962. Our other host, Franklin & Marshall College, dates to 1787 and is so named for Benjamin Franklin and John Marshall, fourth and longest serving Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court. It is a co-educational liberal arts college with about 2,400 students that hail from 45 states, Washington, DC and 47 countries that make up a student body comprised of 46% men and 54% women. It is located about one mile west of center city and fields 27 intercollegiate athletic teams including very competitive CSA squash teams for both men & women. You'll meet Coach Gavin Jones, who serves as the Official Tournament Director, along with his staff and many of the varsity players.
There is quite a bit of history in Lancaster, and we encourage you to experience some of it. Among its many historic sites are:
Our Central Market, the country's oldest continuously operating farmers market that was recently ranked 5th nationally by USA Today. Central Market is located in center city and is a short walk from your hotel.
The original City Hall that housed the Nation's Capitol for one day when it was being moved from Philadelphia to Harrisburg during the Revolutionary War.
Additionally, there are many historic buildings and churches with walking tours available to enjoy during your “down” time.
On behalf of our sponsors, tournament committee members and volunteers, we welcome you to Lancaster, and wish you the best of luck in the coming days. We thank you for competing in the Hamilton Open and hope that your stay is both successful and enjoyable.
